One of the great truths of the gospel is that Jesus chose us to belong to him before we chose him to be our Savior.
This is a refreshing truth because it teaches us that our relationship with Christ is not dependent upon our work. Instead, our work enhances or strengthens what Jesus began in each of us. He appointed every believer to go and produce lasting fruit. He promises that the Father will give us whatever we ask for in accordance with who Christ is and what Christ has accomplished.
Spend some time praying in light of what God’s Word teaches us:
- Thank the Lord for all that he has done for you in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Thank the Lord for choosing to save you when he did.
- Ask the Lord to produce lasting fruit in your life and the lives of people you know. Things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are good to pray for.
