To forgive someone means to wipe the slate clean. Like a teacher wiping a chalkboard with a warm washcloth. In this way we are called to forgive people who hurt us.

We are called to wipe away anything we hold against other people so there is no lasting residue to infect our hearts. The way we do this is by remembering the way God forgives us through the work of Christ at the cross.

Jesus’ shed blood and broken body washes us as white as snow and removes our sin stains as high as the Heavens are above the Earth and as far as the East is from the West. We have a clean slate because of Christ. What could possibly stop us from extending the same grace to other people?

Spend some time praying in light of what God’s Word teaches us:

  1. Remember the many sins that God has forgiven you for…
  2. Thank God for the work of Jesus at the cross on your behalf…
  3. Ask the Spirit to help you extend this same forgiveness to other people…
  4. Ask our Father to help our church family proclaim and extend this invitation of forgiveness in our gatherings this week…
